Our Story

I started writing poetry at a young age and it has always been one of my favorite genres. When I was introduced to Shakespeare in English class, I fell in love with his classic poems and plays because I felt that with Shakespeare’s writing, possibly more than any other writer, one must feel his words to understand. I have also been intrigued by Goethe, Poe, Wadsworth, Keats, Browning, Emerson, Frost, and too many others to name them all. I feel that poetry feeds the soul.

Poetry is also special to me because my maternal grandfather, wrote poetry all his life and kept each piece of paper in a box. When I read them, after his passing, I found that he wrote about nature, love, and so many things that are similar to my writing. I feel that his love of writing was passed along to me and other generations in our family. While in college, I majored in Journalism, but after taking several Creative Writing classes, I found my true passion… poetry through haiku, free-verse, concrete poetry and other forms.

Several of my haiku poems have been published in the online publication, Haiku Journal at haikujournal.org/e-issues/.

To share my collection of sunrise writings and haikus, I decided to create original note cards and calendars using original photography along with my original verses and haiku.

I truly hope that you enjoy Beach Rhythms Original Note Cards and they inspire you to get closer to nature.  Thank you for being part of my journey.

Nature soothes the soul,

Joan
